I think it definitely depends on the severity of the mistake

If it's a huge error, such as negligence then yes. But if they make a small mistake and do what they can to fix it, then no. Doctors are human and they work very very hard. Everyone makes mistakes at work and in their life. It's unfair to say doctors can't make mistakes without fear of very serious repercussions- less mistakes will be reported that way. One of my friends was a first year intern and she accidentally mislabeled a blood tube or something similar. The results came back wrong obviously, but the mistake was caught very quickly (she actually caught her own mistake). She apologized immediately and the mistake was corrected and nothing bad happened. However, the patient threatened to sue her and destroy her career. Thankfully the case the thrown out by the judge, but she was terrified for months about losing her license.

No one is perfect, remember that. You don't sue McDonald's for accidentally giving tomatoes when you asked for none. Accidents happen, people learn from their mistakes, and when I finish up my Doctorate I know that I'll be too hard on myself WHEN I make a mistake, I don't agree with suing people.

Depends on the mistake.

Like one doctor wouldn't test me for Lyme Disease until i convinced him and it came back positive. I wouldn't sue over that. I didn't go back to him though.

My sister in laws doctor missed she had kidney disease despite the numerous symptoms over years and she went into kidney failure at 11. Her school nurse guessed it and called an ambulance for her. They sued that doctor and rightfully so.

It really depends on how severe the mistake is. If they were negligent and/or did it on purpose, then hell yeah you should sue and get their license taken away so that they don't do it to others.
