Tips for anxiety attacks

I have been battling depression and anxiety since high school. I am now 31 years old. I've always been able to deal with it on my own but it is getting worse. I do have a dr appointment next month but I was just wondering if anyone has any tips to help calm down during an anxiety attack. I had an attack a few days ago and I had to lock myself in the bathroom with the lights off until I calmed down. Any tips would be appreciated.

I do a combo of breathing exercises and grounding when I'm going into a panic attack. I also use natural remedies along with Rx and cognitive behavioral therapy/counseling. First let all your air out, breathe in through your nose for 4 seconds, hold for 8 seconds, and let all your air out with a whoosh for 7 seconds. Grounding myself helps with staying present with what's around me. First I sit with both feet planted and I pick 5 objects and describe them out loud. I do this by what they are, what color, texture, does it smell like something familiar or similar? I use Bach's flower remedy called Rescue Remedy when I feel a panic coming. It does have alcohol in the adult one but not in the children's version. Follow the directions on the box for use. I also use Hylands Nerve Tonic which is dissolvable pills 3 times a day regardless of how I'm feeling. Hang in there, life isn't always like this. Much love and support to you.

for me it does and I know other people who like it too. Something to get checked is you cortisol and DHEA levels. if those are off it can make you feel this way and stress really affects them.

Thank you so much for the tips! I did think about trying that nerve tonic but wasn't sure if it would actually work.

ETA: I use the Suicide Prevention Hotline when needed as well. The staff gave great tips for calming and sometimes you need an outside person to talk to. They won't send anyone to put you in the hospital unless they truly think you are in danger. Here is their number: 1-800-273-8255

I know this is probably something you don't want to do, I don't want anyone touching me, I just want to be alone... But, if someone hugs you very tightly and just hugs you until you're okay it does help. The pressure helps.

I had an anxiety attack at work a couple months ago. It took me 2 weeks to feel better. I couldn't sleep, eat, had constant headaches, always light headed. Made myself sick. I have a friend who suffers from it too and we try and contact each other when we go through it. I also play games to keep myself from thinking.

Wow I was going to say yeah I hide in the bathroom all the time like pretty much every day 😖 it just helps me to be alone for a little bit. I still have anxiety but no more panic attacks I used to have in high school. For me i kind of grew out of it in a way. It's so hard to tell someone else what to do so I'm sorry I can't say I have specific advice but just know you are not alone in this struggle 💝

I actually didn't have the full on anxiety attacks back in school. They just started in the past 6 months. A friend of mine said it could be because of hormone changes as I get older and I had a baby a little over a year ago so my hormones are still affected by that. Whatever the reason is, this sucks.
