cervix checks?

When do they start doing those checks? Last week when I went in for my appointment and did the group b test, she didn't check me. I'm just wondering if she will check me today since I'm 37 weeks or what?

Answer

It truly depends on the doctor. When I went at 37 weeks they checked me however that being said the doctor I had at my 38 week appointment doesn't do checks unless your having contractions. They really aren't necessary because they truly don't tell you much. I was 1 cm and 80% effaced at 37 weeks. I had my baby at 39w5d. My SIL who was three weeks behind me was 3 cm dilated at her 37 week appointment and she also had her baby at 39w5d. Some woman can be dilated for weeks. So getting checked is more so just for your own curiousity. If you want to be checked you may need to ask if they don't offer.
