Anyone planning to use a doula?

I will admit, I don't know much about them, but would love some information from any of you who are planning to use a doula or have used one for a previous pregnancy! And any men out there who might be reading this - what was your experience like with your significant other's labor if a doula was involved? Thanks! :)

I'm not pregnant (yet), but have a friend that is a massage therapist/doula and now training to be a midwife. I've had other friends use her services and they just raved about her. She will be the liaison between us and the hospital, basically. Also, she will be applying counter pressure during contractions, which is ideal. I would suggest if you don't know anyone to do some research or ask friends. They don't have to be a stranger on the day of birth-get to know them in the months leading up.

​No I personally wouldn't hire one,simply because I'm not comfortable that a stranger would be the one talking to me..I prefer my mom or my husband

I plan on using a doula with baby #3 (when the time comes) and am also studying to be a doula. If I can answer any questions for you, I'd be happy to help.

I think it depends on how supportive your family is (or whoever will be with you). My bf was a complete butthead about me choosing to labour naturally, so I got a doula for support.

I don't have an experience with this but I probably would never use a doula just because for me I want to focus on my husband or my mom someone who is family in the labor room while I am going thur pain. When I was pregnant with baby #1 I had a lot of people in my room while I was in labor before pushing and it helped me relax a little bit because there are so many conversations going on and everyone laughing and sharing stories. I would rather have that experience again with my currently pregnancy and delivery. But everyone is different and I am sure they help some mothers out there.
