Pay cut???

Question

I have a one year old.  I took a job a few months ago making a lot more money (about 35k more). I am so unhappy and stressed. It is impacting my quality of life. I can take another less stressful job for 30k less but would gain more time with my baby. Would you take it? Anyone do this before???

I'm a lawyer who could easily take on a high stress, high paying job tomorrow. Or I can keep my flexible schedule schedule  working in the office 2 days a week and from home 3 days a week (plus court appearances as they happen) making half what I would otherwise. I choose the flexible schedule despite the fact the other would offer more financial freedom - what I get instead is true work-life balance that allows me not to miss a single precious moment of this tiny little guy's life, growth and development. The money would be great, but the memories and bond are so much greater. If you're family can survive on less, do it. You cannot get this time back and this time is so incredibly precious.

I'm going down to 4 days a week when my son goes to daycare at the end of the summer (my husband is a teacher so he's home with our son over the summer break). I've been back at work for a week and even though I love my job I love spending time with my kid while he's little. So yeah. If your family can still pay the bills then take the pay cut. There's more to life than making a lot of money.

Depends on what your family can afford. I would gladly work less but we need the income.
