IVF success and Quality Control

sarah

Hi Ladies,

I am looking to get the word out on Quality Control testing in IVF labs! AS you probably do NOT know.. The manufacturer is required to do mouse embryo (Called MEA) quality control testing on all medical devices, media, incubators, etc. BUT, the labs are not! Your failed IVF cycle may have NOTHING to do with you.. it could be that your embryo is sensitive to the particular media they are using, or it didn't like the plastic on the medical device retrieval. Do you see where I'm going? Labs are not required to test their equipment after they receive it from the manufacturer. BUT the manufacturer only tests a fraction of each batch. We would like to see labs doing redundant QC testing. The most effective way to do this is by using mouse embryo's. Many labs use human sperm to do QC testing for embryo's. Problem is Sperm and Embryo's are very different! Sperm is VERY resilient!! Embryo's are NOT! Let's chat, I'm curious about what you know- what happens when you pass your precious eggs through the window of the lab- where the magic happens! or doesn't.
