Where do I start?

Recently I had to have emergency surgery. It really made me think more about my life and where I want to go. I want to go back to school to be a teacher. I do not even know where to start. That is part of the reason I didn't go to college when I was fresh out of high school. Now at 29 I have a vision and I don't know the first steps to take. How do I pick a school? What should I look for in a school? Any teachers out there that know what I need to do?
