Pet insurance... worth it or not?

I'm sad by the number of pet owners who said it's not worth it 😢 we've been paying cod insurance on our dog since the day we brought him home at 8 weeks. He's now 5 years old. It's only $30/month and honestly, aside from his shots, flea and tick meds and random check ups, we've only actually used his insurance once. But I am soooo happy we had it. He randomly got a cut on the pad of his paw and it got infected because we had no idea it was there. He needed meds and his blood drawn and all that. Would have cost us over $800 which we just didn't have at the time. With insurance it only cost us $60. I feel that if you're going to have a pet then you need to be a responsible adult and take care of them. And that means having them covered as much as possible medically.

It's worth it to me. I've had insurance for my dog since she was a puppy and it included her spay the first year. Also, it includes all shots and unlimited office visits (any tests or medications would cost extra). It even includes one dental cleaning a year. It's like $30/mo and I have peace of mind that she always gets her shots and regular check ups. They check her stool and run different tests included in her yearly check up. Plus if she starts acting funny I can just take her to the office for them to take a look and I don't have to worry about a bill. They usually let you know before they run any tests that cost extra too. So for me it has been worth it. She's almost 4 now.

If you read the disclaimers I swear it doesn't cover anything I might want it for. Cancer, accident, nothing sudden and expensive.

Worth it for me. I have a cat with feline herpes so he's constantly needing meds and needing to be checked by his vet. It's like 50$ a month or 40$ a visit so it pays for itself. But my other healthy kitty doesn't need it so doesn't have it. Just depends on your situation I think.

Its worth it to me, but my dog is a service animal. When she's sick or hurt, it impacts my life majorly, and vet bills are super expensive. There was a time when she got incredibly sick, throwing up blood and acting lethargic. Without insurance, we were looking at $1700 in vet bills by the end of it. Insurance meant we only paid $75 in total. Its $30/month, so its not even that expensive.

When I had it, it was expensive and didn't cover things I thought it would; so to me, it wasn't worth it.

Please don't get me wrong, I love my pet to death and have spent a lot of money on a couple surgeries and medicines to clean an infection and help her anemia.

If you can find a decent plan that doesn't cost a ton each month, then go for it.

Depends on the company. We have two dogs and two indoor cats and we only have the dogs insured in case they get out or get injured since they're both super active. I've never had to take my older cat in for anything and he's over 8 years old. Just had to take my 5 year old cat in for the first time since she was throwing up for a few days and we couldn't figure out how to stop it on our own and it cost us $400 but had I been paying a monthly premium I would've paid far more than that by now. We have it on the dogs only in case there is an accident since it covers up to $5,000 per incident and I wouldn't want to shell that out in one sitting.

I think it's worth it. I wish I would have gotten it for my puppy before we took her for her very first visit. On her first visit, she was diagnosed with a heart murmur. After that, insurance would not cover her. She's a year and a half now, and we have spent over $10,000 CA for surgeries, heart work ups, medications, and a bunch of other tests on top of regular visits and spay.

I have both my horses insured I'm in the uk so it might be different but it covers them on accidents or If they damage someone's car when on the road, I definitely would never not have it.
