When to buy a crib?

Hey ladies,

When is the best time to buy a crib for the baby? Do I need to have it before the baby is here or can we wait till after the birth to make the purchase? I have heard that there might be a law surrounding when by we should have the crib, so wanted to check.

Thoughts?

We bought a crib super super early. I was about 10 weeks along. The only reason we did this is because there was a sale where a 4 in 1 crib that was $349.99 was supposed to be on sale for $299.99 and Sears misprinted it in their flyer for $99.99. We definitely scooped up that deal ;)

I'm not aware of any law and I imagine such a thing would be impossible to enforce. 
I won't be buying my baby's crib until after he is born. He won't need it for the first two to four months. But, if you are setting up a nursery you may want to get it before. I won't be doing his nursery until he is around 3 months old just due to logistical reasons (we will be at my in laws until then) but if I could do so beforehand I might buy the crib before he's born. I plan on putting him to sleep in a rock n play or cosleeper during the newborn stage.
