Breast pump while pregnant?

Okay so just got this new breast pump and was trying to figure it out, so after a little experimentation and YouTube videos I figured it out. And OH MY GOD ow... my poor nipples felt so bruised. So okay, the question is should I "practice" with the pump to toughen up or will that cause problems? Dr Google has no definite answers for me.

There's no reason to be pumping while pregnant unless you're trying to induce labor. 
When baby comes and you get your milk in, your body will have to adjust to nursing and pumping anyway. You aren't going to "get used" to pumping before baby.

You'll have a nurse in the hospital that will help you with all of that. You're not going to want to "practice" during your pregnancy as it can actually cause premature contractions (and will hurt more because there's nothing to pump lol.)

The actual act after birth is relieving; not painful. Again, they'll show you exactly how/what to do 😊

I agree with everyone's advice here. And I'd like to add that "toughening" your nipples is not necessary, or recommended by lactation specialists. You may hear otherwise from some older relatives (my mother in law would NOT stop talking about it), but trust the nurses and lactation consultants in your hopsital to help out when the time comes. Generally speaking, when breastfeeding hurts or is uncomfortable, it's due to a latch issue, or a medical issue like thrush. My nipples were SUPER sensitive for months after my son was born, but breastfeeding was never painful or uncomfortable. Good luck with everything!

Don't pump while pregnant. Pumping stimulates the release of oxytocin which in turn stimulates uterine contractions. Just wait til ate delivery. It won't be as painful once your milk comes in and you can play with settings then.
