Will you circumcise your son?

I feel torn on this issue. My husband says that there would be a ton of embarrassment when he gets older if we don't do it, but the more I ask around, the more I find a lot of parents aren't doing it! I think this generation will be a lot different than ours in terms of embarrassment for that. I also asked both my midwife and doctor and they said it was only a cosmetic surgery and has absolutely no benefit. It's all cultural. The "being unclean" theory is just a myth. What are your thoughts?!? I am not sure what we will do!

There are benefits and I honestly think fathers should make the call. We as women don't have the parts. We can't make that kind of call.
And I've never heard a circumcised male complain about it, but I have heard of uncircumcised males complain.

Live in the UK where almost no one circumcises their children, without a medical or religious reason, so no.

Don't know anyone who has or will be doing so either.

I'm a theatre nurse too and I've very rarely seen infected or problem penises due to foreskin, so you are right, it's just an American myth for the most part.

I'm from the UK but have heard so much about circumsion in America. Boys are going to have penises that look different from their dads for a start because one is a man's and one is a wee boys. There are few medical reasons why older boys need to be circumcised and it should be up to nobody but the person the penis belongs to. Not the mums and not the dads. It's not cleaner and if there is issues it's most likely because it isn't being cared for properly. It gets cleaned like a finger. Honestly I have a 3 year old boy and as I've said I'm from the UK so this it's even something we need to think about. It shouldn't be retracted or anything to be cleaned. Also the whole cancer thing, that can happen with girls and breast cancer but you don't do anything about that and breast cancer is higher than penile. And you also can't and most probably think ta barbaric to circumcise a girl.

I don't care what anyone says. It's genital mutilation and should be illegal. Would you cut his finger off? Would you circumcise a girl? Just leave his poor peepee alone.

I'm having a girl, but before we found out, hubby and I both agreed that we wouldn't circumcise our son (if we had one). It just doesn't make sense to us why people would...my SO is uncircumcised and has never had any problems associated with not being circumcised. In my opinion it's unnecessary struggle and just another thing to worry about when you have your baby for really not much reward ir reason .

I am having as girl but my first son is and my second son is not. They are 6 and 3. A few months back they were in the tub and my oldest asked why they look different. I explained about the skin being cut on him but not his brother. He had a few questions and went back to playing in the tub. They aren't bothered that they look different than each other.

There is a benefit, and plenty of people who've had to get it done as adults due to infections, with worse recoveries. But ultimately, if it gets cleaned well, then there should be no issues being uncircumcised. I am personally very torn on the idea, because I think they deserve the right to choose whether it gets done or not, but recovery is much worse as an adult than as a baby. So I'm leaving that choice to my husband, since he actually has a penis lol.

My husband and I believe that a boy and his father should look alike, that way there's no questions later about why daddy looks different. Since my husband is circumcised, we'll definitely do it.

First of all, it's about 50/50 these days. Half the boys are and half aren't. As for it being a "cleansing issue", I've worked in the medical field for 12 years and it 100% true that uncircumcised boys tend to get more infections down there than circumcised boys do. With that said, it really boils down to whether the boy was taught to clean his penis properly...if he is, then the risk of infection goes way down and there's really no reason he should need to be circumcised.

My co worker just had to have her two year old son circumcised due to chronic infections for the past year. Poor little guy runs when he needs his diaper changed because the surgery and recovery is so painful. I personally will be circumcising my little man that's on his way.
