Checking your own cervix?

Question

I've seen a cpl ppl post how they check themselves to see if they've dialated...how? I'm scared to try that, how many of you check yourself? Is that safe?

You shouldn't while your pregnant leave it to your dr.

If you're familiar with your cervix pre-pregnancy (like you checked it while charting fertility) go for it! But until baby's fully engaged and you're actually starting to dilate, chances are it will be very high and pointed posterior so you probably won't even be able to reach it while pregnant. It's really not a big scary deal to try a check though - just do some googling so you have an idea what to feel for, and make sure your hands are clean. As long as your water hasn't broken it's no more dangerous than sex (which most docs will recommend)!

Checking yourself wouldn't be too difficult. Just insert your fingers and feel your cervix.  The risks with your care provider doing it are bleeding, cramping, infection, and accidental rupture of membranes. So it'd be safe to assume you'd have a greater risk of all of that when doing it yourself since you're not in a sterile environment and you're untrained.

Increased risk for infection, difficult to reach, and it can mess with certain tests they need to do at the hospital if you do that before you go in to be examined for example for your water being broken or for preterm labor.

I can't fit two fingers in there only one IDK how my SO or my Dr does it & I've never reached my cervix no larger how much I try.
