Date of conception for insemination?

I am wondering with conceiving through insemination do they go off of your last period or the date you were inseminated?

I am just curious because it has to be planned. I'm asking because a friend of mine is having to do insemination and they took a test. At showed pregnant well then she had some light spotting and had blood work done which showed her hog levels were present then had blood work done again which showed an increase but when they did the ultra sound they saw the sac but no heart beat. They were told they were probably miss carrying but when they had their blood work done again hog levels were still increasing. If they go off of the date of last period it would put them at 8 weeks which would be more valid for a miss carry but if they go off of the date of insemination that puts them at 5 weeks which seeing just the sac would be fairly accurate as well as not hearing the heart beat. So there is a large 3 week gap my friend is not wanting to give up hope but they're not sure which to go off of. They were told to schedule a dnc. So you can see her hesitation if there is a possibility of it just being too soon to really see anything. I'll also add the doctor that saw them in there moment of initial panic is worthless and is not looked upon very highly in our community

I think they still use the date of your last period but I could be wrong
