what is the bloody show?

Zoe
First time mom here and I'm not completely sure what the bloody show is. Did it happen to you? Does it happen to everyone? How do you know you're okay when seeing blood?!
Almost 37 weeks.

Bloody show isn't the same thing as your mucous plug. Bloody show is the result of your cervix changing. You may never notice it at home, but while you're in labor you'll probably notice blood on your nurse's glove after she checks you, or on the pad under you! It's completely normal and your nurse will make sure to monitor to ensure its not too much. In my line of work, bloody show is generally a good thing to see 😂 means my patient is progressing and changing 🙌🏼

It's the mucus plug. It's a very thick rubbery discharge that's sometimes tinged with blood. I have 3 kids and had it 2 of my pregnancies, but didn't deliver right away (about 2 weeks later). I actually don't like the term 'bloody show' because my dr said besides having a membrane sweep you should not bleed in later pregnancy. I feel like some women could bleed and think it's just bloody show but it's actually indicative of a problem.

I had a "bloody show". It started with a really bad cramp. Or contraction. And then when I went to the restroom there was blood. I just went to the doctor to make sure everything was ok. Turns it was the start of my labor.

Never had it with my baby. My water didn't break on it's own either.
