How long until I should seek other options?

Question

How long should my husband and I continue TTC before we seek other methods? We have been actively trying for months now and nothing... it's super hard for me to track ovulation and keep track with periods because I am SUPER irregular, and have had many problems with ovarian cysts since I was a teenager.
I'm just tired of seeing negatives every time, and I'm starting to think something more serious is wrong.
Any advice?

Doctors often say one year of ttc.
Here's what my fertility specialist said. BEFORE u start ttc, both parties should get checked and cleared as healthy and able to conceive. From the start, that will eliminate fears. If u are both healthy and able to conceive,  (verbatim by my specialist) do not use apps or opk tests. They often fail and I miss ur fertile window all together because an app or an opk tests TOLD U to have sex.  Instead, have sex every other day for at least two cycles. Having sex every other day for at least two cycles,  (provided ur both healthy and able to conceive), will ensure that u GET pregnant in those two cycles. Why- because having sex every other day,  means there's always fresh sperm waiting at the meeting point for the egg to drop and be fertilized. If ur both healthy and able to conceive,  that means his sperm is good and u ovulate every month,  thus having sex every other day for at least two cycles,  will ensure that u GET pregnant in those two cycles. If u dont, then there's obviously other issues- such as low sperm count on his end,  or PCOS on ur end. Again, this was told to me by our fertility specialist , that we saw before ttc. We both got cleared,  we had sex every other day for one cycle and got pregnant that month.

I think doctors usually suggest trying naturally for a year. It's up to you and the gyn though. If not there's so many other things to assist you. Personally Ive just reached 13months of trying, also have very irregular periods. We're starting clomid next cycle. Tired of the bfn's too. Stay positive!!! Good luck!!! 😘
