How do inductions work?

I may have to get induced in two days due to low amniotic fluid levels and im just wondering how it works? Im 36w6d. Im nervous but excited for my little one. Do i get a shot? Or is it like in an iv? Or what??

If you don't mind me asking what are you fluid levels? 
My fluid has been low since my 20 week anatomy scan they bounce between 5-9. 
I'm 31 weeks now going to weekly I/s and NST and my dr said he induce me between 34-36 weeks depending on how my fluid levels look.

I was just put on a pitocin IV as soon as I got there. About 4 hours later, Dr broke my water. About 4 hours later I was fully dilated.

I was induced with a folley balloon. Basically it's two balloons that are on either side of your cervix that they insert and then fill with water. The basically squeeze together and make your cervix dilate. They got me to 5cm and then turned on the pitocin.

Around where I live they pretty much just start you on pitocin. It goes in an IV. Then eventually break your water.

i had the cervadil (it was uncomfortable but not painful, but its diff for everyone!) and i also had to have pitocin in my i.v. they give you an i.v. when u get there to start u on fluids so u stay hydrated. depending on how u progress or if ur body does it naturally, they might have to break your water. then from there its alot of contractions (u can have an epidural if u choose to) until u push baby out!!! good luck and congrats!💖💖💖

I had Cervidil placed by my cervix. It hurt a lot. Just warning you.
