Can you force someone to get treatment for being an alcoholic?

Can you force someone who has been an alcoholic for over 40 years to get treatment? They drink every single night and have NO interest in their health or the way they treat people(emotionally) they drink every single night without fail. Many many people have stopped talking to this person and they don't care. They think it's "none of our business" that they drink.

No, unfortunately. I say unfortunately because the farther gone you are into that state, the less likely you are to realize you need help (from my experience).

An addict will get help when they are ready to change. Unfortunately sometimes that never happens. But there are many functional addicts out there with full time jobs, supporting themselves and families as well.

I mean... you COULD. Would it work? Hell no it wouldn't. It's the same with any kind of addiction/dependency... If they don't want to get better, it won't work. You have to just wait and hope they realize that it is a problem and they need help.
