My birth story...chosen induction!
Well my induction went great, it overall was very easy. I went to the hospital only being 1.5 dilated and my cervix was considered non favorable. I was 40 weeks and 4 days pregnant. It was 8pm when we arrived to the hospital. They started by giving me a half a pill to ripen my cervix and start contractions. They also gave me an ambien to make me sleep so I wouldn't feel all of the cramps that the other pill would cause. Well 1 am rolls around and my Dr. + nurse came in. He checked me and then announced that the pill wasn't doing as much as it was supposed to and he would just break my water right then. Literally one minute later my water was broke and he washed his hands, and left the room stating he would see me later. The nurse started me on patocin to get things moving. A couple hours passed by and I started getting crampy, 3am rolled around and I was in terrible pain! My poor boyfriend was trying to sleep but I was nearly yelling from the contractions. I called my nurse and she checked me. She told me if I was at a 3 I could get an epidural. I was only at a 2.5 though. She could see the pain I was in though so she got the doctor to give me some pain meds through my iv to hold me over. The meds literally only worked for me for about 30 minutes, at the point I called the nurse and she checked me again. I didn't make any progress but she made me relax and did something that got me to dilate to a 4. I'm not sure what she did but it worked!! So then before you know it I got my epidural! I then slept until 6am and woke up to three nurses in my room. They told me the baby was in stress and didn't say much after that. Colby was still passed out and they out an oxygen mask on me I kept trying to get him to wake up but he wouldn't. He couldn't hear me. They turned off my patocin. Everything ended up being okay and she came back in and turned on my medication. Still not sure what went on but the problem was solved, that's all that mattered! At 9am I was dilated to an 8. Then from there my pressure started to pick up a lot. I was in pain, around 11am my epidural was beeping. It was out. I called my nurse. Instead of replacing it she checked me and said it was time. I was able to start moving my legs on my own and could feel intense contractions! It was so painful, little did I know that pain would be nothing! Around 12pm my nurse called my dr in. Then she told me to not push so hard because the doctor was running late. At this point my body was just doing it!! The doctor came in and got one glove on and the babies head was already out. He had to reach over with his one gloved hand and start suctioning her. He then got a chance to get his other glove on and she was here!!! I have a small 1st degree tear and a hematoma. I would do it all over again if I had too though. It was the most painful thing I've ever gone through in my life. But as soon as she was placed on my chest that all went away!
I've never felt so happy in my life!
