We like different wedding rings?!

I've been with my bf for over 3 years now. We've been going through some struggles this week that made us realize what we both want. Today he showed me a video from that show, Adam Ruins Everything about wedding rings. That had us start talking about wedding rings & what we both want. He told me he doesn't want to get me a diamond ring, but just a band. He said he really likes the rings that are 2 in 1, & that we would have matching ones. When I asked him if he's serious about the no diamond, he said yes. He said he's never really believed that he needs to get his SO a diamond ring...that it doesn't determine the love we have for each other & what matters is the other person. I know this makes me come off as one of those girls who demands things from her bf & as someone who is materialistic, but I'm not one of those people.

I have just always pictured myself engaged with a diamond ring (not a huge one at all). But the reasons why he just wants to get me a simple ring trumps my "I've just always wanted one" reason. Like his reasoning is so meaningful I don't think I have a say 😩 We talked about it a little more & since it won't be happening for another couple years, he said he could possibly change his mind & get me one. Has anyone had this problem???
