Mamas with Cats... Will you get a covered bassinet?

Question

I'm trying to decide if I want to get a bassinet that has a cover because of our cat. I'm leaning towards doing it. Unfortunately all the options I've seen are so ugly!

We don't want our cats in the baby's room at all but didn't want to completely close her room off so we put a screen door on.

My cats are jerks and would just jump on top of the cover which all the ones I've seen are pretty flimsy. If they want in somewhere they'll find a way.

My friends have put balloons in the crib/bassinet before the baby came.  When the cat jumps in, he/she pops the balloon and freaks out and never does it again. Good luck!

No cover as my cats don't like sleeping with people (or each other). I have also read that the covers can be dangerous if the cat jumps or tries to walk on it (can collapse onto baby), and my cats do like sleeping in "hammock-like" sleep spots (like my sweater air drying rack/net).

My kitties knew better than to jump in the basinet with the baby. Sometimes I would hold them so they could see inside....that seemed to solve heir curiosity. When he moved to his crib, I just kept the bedroom door closedto be extra safe (I was afraid they would lay on top of him, or he would suffocate in their fur). Now he is 6 and I still usually shut his bedroom door but occasionally Ieave it open and they usually just lay by his feet, not on him...they do however lay on me while I sleep....

It wouldn't keep my cats out. I'd actually be afraid they would get on top of it and make it fall over baby's face. I'm not sure what we will do yet, but I think it will depend on how they respond to baby at first.

My cat sleeps in the basement at night. So we just keep that door closed. Her food and litter is down there.

I don't have a cat but just a word of warning for people that do, my neighbour went to check on her baby asleep in the cot and found her cat sitting on her daughter. Lucky the cat is only small and was sitting on her legs rather than her chest or face but she got a cover pretty quickly after that and tried to make sure the cat was kept out of the baby's room.

My cats have never wanted anything to do with my now 1 year old son. They stayed away completely. Just depends on the cats
