Dr. Office refusing to do ultrasound

So my Dr.'s office is refusing to check for fetal heartbeat, or to do an ultrasound until April 6th. Because I will be 9weeks then. They are telling me it is too early to hear a heartbeat and also have not seen a Dr. Only a Nurse Practitioner and a Nurse Midwife. Wth? Does this seem a little odd to anyone beside me?
