Towards the lighter end of my period I tend to leave it in a little longer. On my last day where it is barely catching anything I leave it in for 24 hours and then take it out and never notice a smell or anything.

I literally forgot I had mine in and it was over 24 hours of catching stuff. I didn't smell it at all because it also catches any discharge the vagina is inclined to release.  Only after removal did I get a smell and it was only a bloody scent to me...

I think I did once while I was on a flight, wasn't keeping track of time. Nothing noticeable happened.

What are we considering too long? Just more than 12 hours, or closer to a day? I have left mine in for about 13-14 hours a few times when I've lost track of time, or just can't get to a bathroom, but I've never had any weird smells or side effects.

There is no smell because it never hits air but I did leave it in once so long I overflowed my cup

I totally forgot about one time at the end of my period and it was in a full 24 hours. Never doing that again!! 🤢

I've left mine in for about 24 hours before, nothing really happened, and it was towards the middle of my rag, was almost full. I was too crampy to mess with anything down there, so I just let it go. No smell, no nothing, it was fine.
