Daughter having nightmares. Help?

Hey guys,
So my seven year old daughter has been having problems with severe, frequent nightmares.   I'm talking ones that are horrible.  Tonight she came and got me, bawling, saying she had a dream that our house burned down with us in it.  This happens a lot and I don't know what to do.  Does anyone else have a child with this problem?  And what do you do to help?  I would appreciate any advice!!

Couldn't hurt to talk to a family counselor.

As a child I used to cry every night bc it would never be that day again (like it will never be July 23, 2017 again). Some kids are deep, usually gifted, and think of anxiety riddled things other kids don't.

this happened to me as a kid. i was very sensitive & had some other issues too so i eventually saw a therapist (which i suggest for almost all kids) but what really helped in a more immediate fashion was learning to visualize my dog any time i had a bad dream. he would save me from whatever was happening & it taught me it was all a dream. if you don't have a dog, it could be a stuffed animal or anything that makes her feel safe. hope that might help.

I have a young sister a similar age who suffers terribly with nightmares and night terrors. She often shouts out in her sleep and I'll go rushing up to her room and all I can do is try to talk to her and gently wake her up, and bring her back into the real world, hold her, and tell her that she is safe! She often is just screaming in a panic and doesnt know where she is or is convinced one of us in the family has died or that she is drowning or suffocating etc. It can be really traumatic for her and for us too! Have spoken to doctors and they say it is quite common, and often connected to a hormone surge, but we've not really managed to find anything to really help her.  I really hope they don't last long for your daughter, I know it's awful to see them so upset! Xx

When I was little I had constant nightmares. They almost completely stopped after I got my first dream catcher.

I had them too when I was a child. I had a lot of family strife. Maybe a child psychologist?
