Stripping Membrane Warning
Just want to let you ladies know that stripping membranes does not come without risks. My doctor didn't explain this to me at the time it was done. I really should have done my own research prior to letting her complete the procedure. It successfully put me into labor almost hours after leaving the office. However, I developed a fever and my baby developed a really high heart rate. They began antibiotics as soon as I got to the hospital and I had to remain hooked up to an IV while I labored (which is not ideal for a natural birth - I was still successful though - birth story coming soon.)
My labor was longer than it needed to be since the baby wasn't in a good position (due to baby not being ready for labor and delivery -should have just waited) and because of the fever she became stressed and passed a bowel movement when she came out. They had to get her breathing so I couldn't do skin to skin and the cord was cut immediately. She has had to be on antibiotics and constantly monitored and so have I. If I could go back I would have just waited for natural labor and not "encouraged " labor this way.
* this is just my personal experience. I'm sure this only happens to a small number of ppl.
