Car seat only or travel system?

Question

Fellow mamas! I'm a FTM here, living with my husband away from friends and family in Minnesota. 
My question is do I need to buy the travel system? Or just a car seat? If I only buy a car seat and change my mind later can I add the stroller part to fit the car seat? 
I don't think we are going to be out walking in the winter much. But we have a few trips coming up in April-May. The baby will be around 5-6 months. When do they go in to a regular stroller?
I see at the restaurant sometimes people bring in a travel system so the baby can sit right next to the table. I guess that's a reason for the winter?

We got the travel system because the infant car seat snaps into the stroller base. He was born in November and we didn't really start using the stroller part until around April, but it has gotten so much use this summer! He's 8 months old now and we're still using the infant seat connection, but that's just for convenience really. There is a toddler seat that came with the travel system that he CAN use, we just don't yet. We also have a little $20 compact stroller but he's never been in it. Long story short, I definitely recommend the travel system, but you don't -have- to get it by any means.

Yeah I would say having a stroller with cat seat is very helpful. U can get the car seat first and later buy a stroller that fits it but I think the deals are for the whole system. You will use both items! And it makes carting the car seat to and from places so much easier especially if u go shopping and such and. Baby is asleep.

I'm a FTM too and my husband and I just went ahead and purchased a travel system. It was sold separately, but it fits together as a travel system and it's the same brand. Unfortunately Stokke doesn't sell car seats and strollers together (at least we couldn't find it). We're also gonna purchase a jogger stroller for hikes and walks/runs in the park.

I bought my daughter a new stroller at 16 months to replace my oldests stroller we had for her. and now we're expecting a new baby. I don't want a travel system since I already have the stroller. I'm just going to get the carseat that fits it. honestly I'd get the travel system so you don't have to worry about a stroller later.
