So a friend of mine related a conversation she recently had with a coworker. Her coworkers had a few cats and was telling her about the kind of care they require. My friend jokingly said that it was too much effort and why didn't the coworker just pay for someone else to do it or put them in a cattery and just take them out on weekends to play with them or something. Her coworker was a bit shocked and offended but my friend didn't see why. I tried to explain that it was like suggesting to someone with children that they should just shove them in a daycare and only bring them home when they feel like it but she didn't seem to understand why that would offensive either. I'm starting to think that I was wrong about it but if I had pets I would be really cheesed off if someone said that about them.
