If you haven't heard about this, a student named Tiffany Martinez turned in a paper for her class at Suffolk University in Boston. The professor gave it back, circling the word "hence" that she had used in the paper, and said "this is not your word". Apparently because he thinks only white students can say "hence" therefore she must have plagiarized her paper?

"It is worth repeating how my professor assumed I could not use the word “hence,” a simple transitory word that connected two relating statements. The professor assumed I could not produce quality research. The professor read a few pages that reflected my comprehension of complex sociological theories and terms and invalidated it all."
