Early surprise. Born at 33w4d
So here's my unexpected birth story. My baby was due 09/09/17, on Tuesday night I just got home from work had dinner and then was making my way to bed. Said goodnight to my husband, gave him a kiss, walked into the hallway and I felt this pour of liquid. No, wait, what how.. it's far too early. This is not pee, it won't stop and I'm soaked. Additionally it smelt like a salty liquid.
So we phone the hospital, yes your waters have gone get here now. There's my stood there on the tiled floor asking my poor husband to run Around the house, as at this point my hospital bags were only half packed. Anyway I threw on anything I could find, and ran for the car. Once in the car, my contractions started, me frantically trying to download an app to count how far apart they were. However from birthing classes they said for your first Labour they would start gradually and be spaced apart. No mine were coming every 2/3 minutes, and fairly intense.
Next we get to the hospital, only a 20 minute drive. After 45 minutes the midwife accesses me, and comes along the consultant who said my waters going probably just triggered contractions and they would give me something to stop labour. Took the drugs, it wasn't working. I was given steroids, to help with his lung development. At this point this pains are fairly sharp, so I'm offered Gas & Air. Skip another 3hours and I'm in agony. They give me pethadine, can't say it did much, and they soon realise that this slowing down. So the consultant checks me and I'm not dilated at all. He seemed happy, I wasn't pleased as why was in so much agony. Anyway the time went on, got more intense I got a bit fowl mouthed. They wouldn't let me walk around or move, as it would help my labour progress but I really wanted to. So after a few hazy moments, I notice they are prepping the room as if I'm going to have a baby. Please note at this point, I've known for weeks my baby is Breech.. and it's rarely permitted for a natural breech delivery. Turns out I'm now 8cm So, it n
ow looks like they want me to crack on and do this. The hours dragged past, i got more pethadine about 5hrs later, and it worked this time. For the next 2hrs I was napping between contractions, but wasn't allowed to push as I had to wait for him to slowly come down as I needed all of him out in one go.
Pushing, that was the easy part. 4 contractions and he was out.. and nicely sprayed the doctor 😂😂😂 I did have to have an incision cut, but it's tiny. The baby doctors arrived, let me hold him for 10 seconds and sent him to intensive care. For a 33w baby he was 5lbs7, so a really good weight. Just needs help breathing.
So worth it in the end, and can't wait until I can hold him and bring him home.
