How was she not convicted of attempted murder? He was unarmed and she tried to cut this throat!

Lots of people get acquitted based on procedural/law enforcement mistakes. Maybe she wasn't read her Miranda rights, or the victim wasn't willing to face her in court. 
I would guess that's what happened here. 
It seems unfair at times, I know, but it keeps our justice system in check

Maybe there just wasn't enough evidence for a jury to convict without a doubt. It's not that she didn't do it, just lack of evidence.
