Long distance?

Question

How to keep long distance interesting? I'm new at this! I'm new at serious relationships in general & now we've got to be apart for some time...

COMMUNICATION! It is very important in a normal relationship, but even greater in a LDR
Make time for "dates": video calls where you both have each others full attention
Trust is also like communication in that it will take more than a close proximity relationship

I was in an LDR for 4yrs before my boyfriend moved to where I'm living and proposed. Like in any relationship, but even more importantly in an LDR, you need communication. Any issue, upsetting thing, good, exciting thing, etc you should talk about. You need to talk about everything to do with your relationship and don't hide stuff that just results in more problems. 
You've also got to make time for each other. Skype dates are great. My fiancé and I used to have dinner dates, movie dates, board games, etc. It helped us still have a more normal relationship. Making time for each other is important- my fiancé and I really recommend either skype or actual phone calls. Texting isn't communicating honestly. We never texted each other (and still don't) except for when we were checking in, asking a quick question, etc. But having conversations over text isn't really communicating- it's much more impersonal than a phone call where they're your focus of attention. 
Visiting each other when possible is also something that needs to happen. Having a visit planned also helps get through the time apart. My fiancé and I were generally very far apart and very busy so we saw each other every 4-6 months. So having an end date to when we'd stop being apart was really good for us. 
Other ways to connect we're sending care packages- Id go all out especially around the time of final exams (we were in university for most of the LDR) and send cookies, little things I knew he'd like (my fiancé loves cassettes so I'd send those a lot) and love notes, etc. He'd usually send me flowers. Or we'd send each other ridiculous things in the mail, but it was fun for us. It just showed we cared and were thinking about each other. Plus, sending things around important moments in their life it shows that you're there to support them even if you're far away. 
Communication, showing you care and making time for each other- it's like any other relationship, but you just have to get creative when in an LDR and sometimes these things are even more important. It's easy to feel really lonely in an LDR so making sure you both know you've got someone in your corner is super important.

Ive been in a long distance relationship for a year and 3 months. I met him online and I honestly have never felt so close to someone in my life. I think the biggest struggles you'll have is trust and insecurity. Being honest is the key to a healthy ldr. 
To make the distance easier I recommend Skype, and you can watch movies together while on a call or you can download games together for a little competition. Also a little "sexy time" could be nice every so often :)
