Pass it forward 🙄

Elle • I threw my pie for you

Where I'm from there seems to be a huge trend in doing good deeds and 'passing it forward' to others. Of course everyone broadcasts their deeds onto Facebook and states how they are 'doing it out of the kindness of their hearts' and will go on and on and on about how selfless and kind and wonderful they are. It honestly comes across as more for attention than for kindness.

For example, a person overheard a mum say to their child in a shop 'no you can't have any sweets today', so the stranger gave the child £20 assuming the mum couldn't afford it. Someone else pays an extra £6.50 for the stranger in the car behind them to get across the toll bridge. A work colleague brought an expensive meal for a girl in a restaurant because she had blown her money on makeup (she had just been shopping and could see the bags). People purposely announce they've brought a beauty and the best cup just to give it away to a random person. One person was leaving bracelets on people's door steps?! A stranger in town gave two children (with their mum) £5, they then saw the third child later and followed them all the way to the car park to give that child £5 too. It seems weird to me.

At the risk of sounding miserable, I don't understand it? Why not give that money to someone who is actually suffering like a homeless person or someone who can't afford food and depends the food bank? It seems such a waste to me and people seem to be doing it for the wrong reasons. They announce the good, selfless deed on Facebook then wait for the recipient to write a thank you post and then tag them🙈.

Is this a big 'thing' where you are? What are your thoughts? Do you feel people are doing it for the wrong reasons? I completely understand helping someone out but the deeds seem to get bigger and be for the glory 🤷🏼‍♀️.
