Am i over reacting?

Okay so me and my boyfriend live in a trailer on the same property as my parents (they have 20 acres). My parents also have this big gate that you put a code in to open it. Well its broke right now bc of the wires or something. So my mom shut the gate with her hands bc i was home alone with my 8 day old baby and when my boyfriend came home he opened up the gate but didnt put the motor back on so it shut and made a huge black mark and dent along the side of his truck. So he decided later since i wouldnt tell my mom to pay for it (it was his fault anyways bc its happened before so he knew) that he would go out there and BREAK the motor ($200 to fix). I told him to tell my dad and apologize and pay for it and hes more concerned about his truck.. so i went down to my parents house and told him im staying down here until he either apologizes and tells them he will pay for it or just until he plain pays for it. My parents havent noticed yet and they havent done a single thing for them to even deserve that. When they know were broke they help us out and they let us live there rent free. Am i over board to stay at my parents until he pays for it and apologizes? Even after i told him ALL HES CONCERNED ABOUT IS HIS TRUCK! He has always had a temper (not in a abusive way.. he would never hurt me or never even has in any way).
