Is it safe to eat dry chia seeds mixed into oatmeal?
I just bought chia seeds last week and have been mixing about a tablespoon in with my oatmeal and parfaits. I just read online that a man ended up in the emergency room from eating a tablespoon of dry chia seeds and then drinking a glass of water. When I make my oatmeal, I just heat up in the microwave my 1 minute quick oats, and then I sprinkle about a tablespoon of dry chia seeds on top and mix them in. Then I add a few pieces of fruit. When I eat it, they don't really soak up a ton of moisture because I eat it almost right after I pour it in. Is this a safe way to eat it? I am nervous now because I ate a big bowl of oatmeal with chia seeds in it, and then drank a glass of water. After I ate it I read the article online. Do you think I will be okay? Should I soak them before I put them in my food next time? Thanks
