I suck when it comes to foundation

At picking foundation.. I really want to try and up my makeup skills. I got the la girl pro coverage in dark chocolate. My mom insists that it makes me darker. I tried mixing my beauty balm with it to see what would happen. Epic fail. I took a picture tonight after I did my make up not only was I not really cute in bright light. I was just playing around with a look- trying to look a lil sultry and girly, I guess. I'm including a picture please don't pick on me too bad 😭😭😭😂😂😂 ( I was just being random!!)

I need some tips.. how to pick out the right shade for me without looking crazy.

Update: I went to Ulta and I found my shade and got the glitter primer!!!! It looks so cute on me!!
