Do you think a macbook is worth it?

I'm in my last year of college, starting uni next year. My mum gave me the idea of saving up money and get a macbook, she said they will both help with giving me money for it as well. I use my laptop a lot for college and I will probably use it even more in uni, and in my future career too. A coworker of my mum's has had his for 4 years and said that he's never had issues with it. I've had my laptop for about 4-5 years and it's so damn slow I can barely upload my work or send it to my teachers.

Do you think it's worth it? Or should I save my money and get another regular laptop?
