Are we crazy?

Question

My sister in law's boyfriend asked us to join them for his birthday weekend trip; we're all super close and they absolutely adore our daughter so they want us to bring her too. She will be over a year old by then. 
It is an 1.5 plane ride there and one of the plans is to take her to the zoo (the San Diego zoo, it's huge and nice; it has pandas too!). Besides that we plan to just eat our way through and chill-- we possibly might try and hang out with my husband's childhood friend (who is also friends with my sister in law and was a groomsman in our wedding). We would be leaving Saturday and coming back on Monday.
We live in Northern California so we should just be heading down to Southern California therefore we're still in the same time zone.
It would be our daughter's first plane ride! We've never taken here anywhere far. We are going to do our first overnight trip in September but it's only a 2 hour drive from home.
Are we crazy to want to take a 1 year old on a plane ride even though it's not a long one? We are first time parents so this is all brand new to us!

Thanks for all the support! How did you handle the pressure change for your LO during take off and landing?

Just flew with my 11mo for a 2hr 45min flight and I was nervous. He's pretty high energy and physical but with enough toys and distractions, we made it. The flight was during his morning nap. At first I cringed because I thought that no way my busy body son is going to sleep on an airplane. But he did!! Both ways! It taught me to loosen up a little with his schedule once in awhile because it all worked out and even if it didn't, you get through it. And it gave me confidence to be more adventurous with him. Glad I got that experience under my belt.

My 2 ye old has been on a plane 6 times already and my one year old has been on 3 times and the first time at 3 months. Totally doable

I actually live down there and have family up North. I took my LO on the hour and ten minute plane trip when she was six months old. She did fantastic. She was really curious during take off and landing but slept the rest of the time

My DS has been on 8 plane rides already mostly just him and I. I'd consider him high maintenance and he does great even that one time when we got stuck on a  2 hr plane ride for 8 hrs. Take more diapers, wipes and food then you think you need and you'll do great. If he starts to cry or anything just stay clam, I promise most of the people on the plane have/had kids they get it and don't really mind. Good luck, have fun!

You're not crazy at all! We drove two hours to San Diego with our 11 month old this summer and had a blast. Plus, it sounds like you'll have plenty of help so you can pass her around in the airplane so she doesn't get bored. I say go and have a great time!

I would say go for it, especially since you have extra hands to help!  Our 11 month old hasn't flown yet, but all our family is out-of-state and we traveled for 3 1/2 weeks in July.  He spent over 55 hours total (plus stops) in the car and every 3-4 days we were staying somewhere else.  He and his 4 year old brother were troopers!

We took baby on a plane at 2 months and 10 months. All was fine with a 2.5 hour flight. Have fun!

Also, my SIL and her boyfriend are really hands on with her so we would have their help. We're all planning to take the same flight there and back and stay at the same hotel.
