Is Single-Sex Education Beneficial?

ǟʍ

Single sex education--separating boys and girls into different classes--used to be a practice largely abandoned except for in some private schools. However, this practice has slowly seen a resurgence in the U.S. There is no consensus from psychologists as to the benefit derived from this type of learning environment, but educators who are proponents of it claim this allows them to adapt teaching methods to suit the strengths of either sex, which may be based on the differences in brain development. Those against single-sex learning environments say that the differences in brain development do not necessarily translate to different learning styles, and that separating boys from girls will inhibit social skills (interacting with the opposite sex).
