Military?

Question

so my boyfriend wants to join the military but Hes not sure. a big reason he wants to is because we have a son and we have no money nor jobs and are living with his mom. another reason is he dont go to college.. I keep telling him I think he will do great but he doesn't know what to do so im just wondering what you guys think. I would also really appreciate some input from people in the service or from spouses/ SO thank in advance!

I can only speak for Air Force, but it's stable only if you guys get married. He will get paid extra, if you guys live on base rent/utilities are included and paid for through BAH (housing allowance). He can still do college. they get a certain amount per year for classes plus they get a bunch of credits (dependijng on job chosen) towards their degree.

The military changed my life I was 19 years old and had one child. I was going to school and working at a warehouse which wasn't how I wanted to live I also lived at my moms at the time and I didn't want to be there. I joined the army in 2010 been to South Carolina for basic then Alabama for ait. My job is an ammunition specialist and I got stationed in Colorado. I've been to Afghanistan and now I'm stationed in North Carolina. My kids have medical insurance and dental and I can go to school for free. It was the best decision I could do for my family

The military is not for everyone. You gotta be okay with being told what to do and following orders.
I joined because I was working three jobs getting nowhere and being in has definitely given me stability I didn't have before

My brother joined the Army when he was 20 because there were no good jobs and he had a hard tome making a liveable wage. 14 years later he's advanced his rank and is buying his first home. He has lived in Germany, Korea, and multiple places in the states. He's deployed a few times but that's the name off the game. He has a beautiful wife and 2 fantastic kids. Now he's moving across the country to live in a new state. He's happy and achieving all of his dreams. The flip side to that is deployments, living far from home, limited time with the family. It's a really hard life but comes with many rewards of your willing to do the work. My husband is Army National Guard. He's home most of the time but he deploys. Drill always seems to fall on weekends when we have family events. There are downsides. Talk to each other, make sure it's what you want. Can you handle being on your own for a year or more if he deploys? Possibly with a child? Can he handle being away from home? Missing important time with his family? It's really hard! Think it through. At the end of the day though I know my brother is happy with his choices and we are happy with ours! Good luck!

the money is only stable if you get married. and most people live on base but my husband and I live off base and we save about $1000 dollars/month. but we live in Hawaii so housing is expensive here. we get $2600/month for house and if you live on base they take all or it for housing and since we live off base we pay $1775/month for a slightly smaller apartment and all utilities included. so if you do, get married, live off base, and find yourself some hobbies lol.

I owe everything to the army. I wouldn't be married or taken care of, I wouldn't have health insurance or two new vehicles. We have our own home and we are never scared of losing it because this is the most steady job you could ever have if you act right. And your husband can get just about any job thanks to his military background when he gets out. It can be stressful at times but not as stressful as barely scraping by. It is so so so worth it.

if you have a family and still want those family dynamics i would recommend him looking into the AF. like said below, it'll be doable. my hubby is af. each branch has a different dynamic, and lifestyle. you will get housing allowance, and he gets paid good compared to not having any job, and health insurance for the whole family.

It's a good start for a stable income and being taken care of cuz they pay for pretty much EVERYTHING but I would strongly suggest going to school while he's in so y'all will have jobs when he gets out

Being in the military is giving selfless service. Its all about what you can give to serve your country than thinking of yourself.  If you are focused on yourself, cant work in teams, adapt to change, and or cant obey or follow orders then the military is not for you (him)
I joined the Army when I was 22. I always wanted to join  before graduating high school but my parents insisted on graduating university first, so I did. I finish my bachelors and joined the military.
Joining the military has been the best decision ever. I joined enlisted. I traveled all over the world and meet so many wonderful people, including my best friends. I served 8 years. On my 3rd year I got deployed to Afghanistan, that experience help become a better person in so many ways. Due to being a team player within my third year I promoted to E5 Sergeant, it was a huge responsibility from sleeping 3 to 0 hours some days in order to make sure my soldiers were safe, but all worth it. When I returned from Afghanistan I finished my graduate degree with the education benefits that the military offered me. To this day I still enjoy the benefits I earned serving my country.
After 8 years and with the desire of starting a family of my own I decided to leave in order to be able to spend time with my family. Being in the military requires a lot of sacrifice, selfless service, being mentally and physically though. If you are willing to support him through this and his own experiences it will help him to be a happy and satisfied service member and human being.
