Pain/burning during sex

So ever since I started taking birth control pills 2 years ago (which I regret) I have had vaginal dryness and have had infections come and go. The other day my boyfriend and I were having sex and when he entered me it was very painful and there was a burning sensation. I do not have a yeast infection, and I don't think I have BV because there is no odor, and the problem usually only occurs during intercourse. What could be the problem? And how do I cope with this?
