Any tips for first tattoo?

I'm going to get my first tattoo in a couple days. I've read what I could find for tips. Like eat before, drink enough water, tip of course, get it wear you can cover it when needed, shave and shower before and listen to the artist about after care. Just wondering if there other tips to help maybe less the pain or anything.

Keep it super clean, be prepared for it to hurt. It almost kinda burns. And no it doesn't go numb after awhile, at least mine didn't. Depending on where your getting it, you'll be sore the next day. And keep it clean, most importantly.

Eat before, wear comfy clothes/ something that's east to move/rearrange depending upon the area. Also depending how big it is, I always bring Gatorade auth me to drink during breaks.  As far as aftercare goes,  keep it clean,  don't touch it besides cleaning the plasma off with clean hands and I always put fresh sheets on my bed after tattooed as an extra precaution  . When it's healing don't scratch it/ try to peal it and avoid rough clothing.

Don't forget to breathe! It's so important that you don't hold your breath. Also don't be afraid to tell your artist if the placement of the stencil isn't what you want. They can easily clean off the stencil and apply another but they may tell you why they put the stencil there. I know for mine I didn't like the placement then my artist explained why it worked so I kept the placement

Always eat and drink before you get a tattoo. Last time I went to get a tattoo this girl came in for her first tattoo and she had one granola bar b4 she came in and didn't drink anything that whole day. She started passing out when the lady started tattooing and she had to wait 10-15 minutes for her to be okay to continue after getting her something to eat and drink.

if you're doing a long session, don't be afraid to ask your artist to take breaks! stretch, have a snack, pee. and this is probably bad, but i pop half a Vicodin beforehand and another half a few hours in (I had left overs from getting my wisdom teeth out). it takes the edge off. I'm super sensitive to meds though so it might not work for everyone .

it's not nearly as bad as you think it is. I have decent pain tolerance but I'd say they are mildly unpleasant but in no way unbearable. I have 4 but my boyfriend is pretty well covered. Just talk to the artist to distract yourself. It's really not so bad though!!!

Clean it with hot hot water for a few seconds when you get home, the let it breath overnight, and then use purel scent free lotion the next day, just enough to keep it moist, but it wet.
