Have you been on vacation without your LO?

Question

My husband and I have been planning a trip to Italy for years and can finally afford to go this year for our anniversary. Our daughter will be 15 months and staying with grandma and grandpa who she loves being with! Only problem is I'm so worried to leave her, I know ill miss her so much and I don't want her to feel abandoned by us. (9 day trip)
Have you gone on vacation without your baby? How did it go? How did they respond when you got home?

Answer

We went on our honeymoon when our son was 12 months. He spent 4 days with best friend his "aunt" and 4 days with my mom. He had an absolute blast and they were so good with him. Did we miss him? Absolutely more than words can say but it was probably the one and only time we will ever take that kind of trip without him for I dunno the next 18 years lol I didn't feel guilty only because he was too young to understand. I think it would be harder to leave now that he's 2 and more aware.

Answer

We live in Northern California and plan to take a trip to Seattle and Vancouver next May or June without our daughter. She'll be about 1.5 years by then. We have two trips planned right now-- one in September and one in October, the one in September is close by to our place (a 2 hour drive from home) and the other we have to get on a plane-- both times it'll be with her.
Initially we were going to try and go to Seattle/Vancouver this fall but we felt like we should wait till she's a little bit older.
My parents take care of her while we're at work and we live with them so I know it's not going to be an issue when we leave for about a week.
