I had a sweep done when I was 2cm, I was in labor within 48 hours. Also, I felt no pain or discomfort. That being said, it's big a mandatory thing, just tell them you prefer big to have one.

just say no. I said no to lots of stuff and educated myself enough so that I wouldn't be taken advantage of. I didn't let anything get by me. you're allowed to say no. it's not necessary

Honestly this is my 5th and i will be saying no this time. ive had multiple stretch and sweeps with all 4 of my kids and it didnt work with any of them at all and just hurt

I had one with my third. I was 4 cm and she assured me a membrane sweep would have me into labor in the next couple days. It did not and it hurt. I had contractions the whole drive home (little over an hour and I drove myself) and for maybe an hour after I got home and then they stopped. If you choose against it, you can simply tell them no that you will not consent to it. At that point, unless you trust your OB completely, I wouldn't even have a cervix check (you can refuse those to) because they might try to sneak a sweep in during that. That has not personally happened to me, but I've heard of it happening to other women.
