Can I ask my doctor to check for a heartbeat?

I'll be either 9 or 10 weeks and I just need to hear it. The last time we had an appointment was with our last pregnancy and they didn't check for a heartbeat even though I was 11 weeks. had they checked we would've known that my baby had passed before 14 weeks. So this time it's terrifying to me to think that it could happen again and I just want to know if it would be okay to ask her to check anyways even if it's my first appointment.

Definitely ask. It's really a super easy thing for them to do so I don't see why not. Depending on baby's position though, they might not find it. I heard mine at 11 weeks.

I'm surprised they're not checking you given your history. I called and told them I was having cramping on one side and they checked me for ectopic and I got to see the heartbeat, and insurance covered it since I had reported a problem. I actually was having real cramping so I'm not advising you to lie per se....but....

Definitely just ask! My mom and older sister both miscarried their first times and when I went in that's the first thing I wanted done. And no way is that too early. I got it done at 9 weeks and baby's heartbeat was 150. Just ask. They should be understanding.

I think that's too early to hear a heartbeat. I wasn't able to hear it at my 12 week appointment, because the baby was so small and not in the right position. You should definitely request an ultrasound so that you can see the heartbeat. Like others have said, it should be covered by insurance, and after what you've been through I think it's a very very reasonable request.

you can ask but it might be too early depending on where your uterus is positioned...I couldn't hear mine until 11 weeks because mine is tilted
