Umbilical cord

Does this look infected?? It's oozing pus, red around it, and it smells absolutely rancid. No fever. I called my doctor yesterday at 3 pm to ask about it and she just said "you called too late for us to look at him. You'll have to take him to the er". So I didn't take him in because I thought maybe I was over exaggerating but now it's looking a little more pus like. Does this look infected and should I go to the er for it? I don't want to be the mom that rushes to the er for something that's nothing
