22 weeks lost

So we had a 19 week scan and was told everything was great. We were so excited as it's our first Bub and told everyone

We got a call out of the blue asking us to come back for an urgent appointment 3 days after the scan and then referred us to a specialist who couldn't see us for another 5 days. After multiple tests we were informed the baby had a very rare heart condition and they have only performed a few of these surgeries. We were informed the outcome wasn't great and high chance of neurological issues. We were told chances of survival was small and multiple heart surgeries were needed. We were told to prepare for strain on our relationship as well as financial pressures

We were given three choices

1. Go ahead with the pregnancy but prepare for the worse

2. Palliative care but baby would die in a couple of days

3. Termination which is illegal after 20 weeks so would have to travel to get it done.

Me and my husband have decided the third option which is costing us over $10k. And we have to wait two weeks. It's such a stressful time and trust us this wouldn't be an option if everything was ok. We are put in this position as we want the best for our child and the other options seem cruel. It's so hard seeing anti abortion everywhere as people don't understand that it's often not a choice. All health professionals recommended this to us and for my health too. I've been so stressed I lost 2kg in 4 days.

I think the most disappointing thing is the cost as it put even more stress and heartache on us and I think what about others in this situation who didn't have this in savings.

I have no doubt we are making the right decision but sad we can't tell people the truth due to how controversial it is.
