Why isnt there more Citizenship support?

Question

So immigration and DACA has been a common topic here lately and peoole who are supporting DACA (I do support it, but with some conditions), I have noticed that most have not said anything about citizenship. Isn't becoming a citizen important? Why dont more people encourage this? Os it insensitive to expect people to handle their business once they are old enough to make the decision to stay here? If you know someone here illegally, dont you think helping them (maybe financially) is more affective than protesting?

I think it IS important to become a citizen but the process is so difficult that saying "well they should've just gotten their citizenship" is so frustrating to people who are potentially losing their families. They know the process, they know it's not easy. It doesn't help to have someone who doesn't even know immigration laws patronize them.

I'm not really sure how to answer your questions. Do you think people are discouraged from becoming a citizen? 
   
I feel like this question is similar to this... I'm not sure why everyone doesn't encourage higher education, isn't that what is better? Why isn't there more education support? I understand it is difficult and long to do, but why don't more people go to get higher education degrees?

Because DACA didn't provide a pathway to citizenship, and obtaining citizenship takes time and money. To even get a green card--which you are required to have for 5 years (under most circumstances) before you can become a citizen--it can be difficult. If you have family who are already citizens or have professional job skills and/or education, or a special status (like a refugee), then it is easier. But for a lot of people who may wish to apply under the "unskilled laborers" category, only 5,000 of those types of green cards are allowed annually. If you do not already have a form of legal status and are residing in the U.S., by law you are usually required to leave the country first and then apply and--depending on the nature of your entry and stay in the US--you may be barred from entry for 3-10 years.
Some people have it easy. My husband was an immigrant. He came on a student visa to study. We started dating while he was here, and we were married while he was still here legally under an F-1 Visa. Because I am a U.S. citizen, a green card was available to him (and the path is simple, since he entered legally and still has legal status). Typically, a green card holder arrived to a citizen must have resident status for three years before applying for citizenship, but my husband enlisted in the Army Reserves, which allows application for citizenship after one year of service. We had to pay for the green card application fees--which are quite expensive--but fortunately his fees for applying for citizenship were waived because of his military service. BUT, my husband's experience is not the same as the majority of others who wish to immigrate to the U.S. Just because someone said "I did it, you can do it too, it's easy", doesn't mean that is actually the case for all--or even most--people.

Becoming a citizen for many people is a choice and not a goal. There are many countries which they don't allow dual citizenship and I I'm pretty sure for example in Mexico, you can't own a property if you are not a citizen of Mexico. I'm not at all saying this is the reason but there is a lot more into this than what is looks like.
