Can they force me??

Today I am scheduled to work from 8:45 a.m - 1:00 p.m. So far the girl that is supposed to come to work and work the last half of the day hasn't shown up. She is 15 minutes late. Can my work force me to stay and work the last half of the day even though they didn't schedual me for it? Am I allowed to say no and leave? I have things to do and can't stay.
I am a cashier.

That depends on your job.   I as a nurse if I packs up and went home could be charged with abandonment and lose my license.   We get mandated allll the time.

you can definitely tell them no although they might not be happy with it but tell them you have things that need to get done. if you explain I'm sure they'll be fine

I would think this depends entirely on what type of job you have. If you're in an essential position that is highly specialized like the only person capable of doing your job you may have to stay until they can find someone to relieve you.
