Do you know about the Nanking Massacre (Rape of Nanking)

I was never taught this in high school but it was something my dad told be about when I was pretty young. I'm not going to leave details, Google it if you'd like, but a lot of the pictures are graphic. But how many of you know about it? And was it something you were taught in school?

The amount of no answers disappoints me. I believe it's a very important topic that everyone should know about, especially those interested in any type of feminism or equality movement as it was truly horrifying but a lot of people brushed it off. Similar to the current brutal rapes that are going on in the Congo over war and girls who are being raped in rural parts of Africa while they are traveling far to get clean water. I never learned about it in school, I discovered it on Reddit at about age 10 or 11 and became engrossed with how cruel these events were and that I'd never even heard of them! I believe that was what started my interest in criminal justice since in most of these events justice was not served.

I just briefly skimmed the Wikipedia article. That's horrific. What possesses people to be so cruel?? War is one thing but that is just pure evil.

No, but there's a lot left out of history in school, especially when it comes to other countries- particularly with things this horrific. It's not surprising to me it's left out of schools.

Yes, but I didn't learn about it until I was in college taking history courses. High school history classes tend to sugar coat everything, and they usually fail to look critically at our past.

I learned about it in school. I also learned about the massive number American soldiers committed a mass rape against Germany women and young girls in 1945 some people estimated it was 11,000 others said it's closer to 190,000 that's a big difference.
