What would you do in this situation?
Scenario: you're being rescued during a horrible storm or event (like a hurricane). You have a spouse, two young children, and a large dog. The rescuers are likely the only ones out to help you. They say you cannot bring the dog because they don't accept them at the shelter they're taking you to, but they'll take you to take it to high ground and leave it, and they can try to find someone to go get it but no guarantees. Your home is quickly flooding and you don't know if you've got another way to safety. What do you do?
I've seen all of these videos online of animals being rescued that were left behind during hurricane Harvey. A lot of people in comments are saying they wish people who left animals behind were drowned, charged with cruelty, etc. While I do agree leaving animals in cages or tied up and defenseless is horrible, I have to have an open mind and think, maybe someone had to choose between their child and their dog or cat. That would be a horrible decision to make, but at the same time I wouldn't blame them for choosing their child if they really didn't have any other way to save both. I would choose my child too. Someone without children may think that's ridiculous to pick a human over an animal, but that's just how it is for me, and I'm sure lots of parents. I wouldn't leave my dog in a cage, tied up, or in a house, I would put her outside in a high ground spot and hope she's able to swim to safety or is rescued if the water reaches her. Again, this is only in a scenario where there is literally NO other option at all, either leave the dog or stay. I saw other comments on Facebook saying they wouldn't choose between their child and pet, so I wanted to make this poll to see what some people would do. Ideally you would have a plan for situations like this or evacuate before it gets to this, but ya know. There's lots of people who stay home during mandatory evacuations anyway.
