3 months PP period questions

So I'm soon to be 3 months postpartum. I had my first period return at 7 weeks and am now on my second one. This one isn't as bad as the first but I'm having a lot of clots which I never had before. Also, tampons are not working!...like I must wear a pad also or it'll get everywhere around the tampon 😧. Are both of these things normal? I've been on birth control (ortho tri cyclen) for a month and had expected this period to not be so heavy since they never were before, but the clots freak me out at this point.
